About Us
Whetcombe Herdwicks is a flock of purebred Herdwick sheep, lovingly reared in the hilly fields of South Devon, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.
Our stock traces its lineage from the natural bloodlines of the Lake District Herdwicks and the qualities laid out in the Herdwick breed standard. We are registered members (no. 755) of the Herdwick Sheep Breeders Association (HSBA).
Our Sheep
Our breeding flock originated with the purchase of four purebred ewes from Exeter Livestock Market in the summer of 2014.
Inspired by our keen interest in the breed and its heritage, the flock soon grew with a trip to Cumbria, later that year, to purchase additional stock from Mary Bell of Crookabeck Farm in Patterdale, where Herdwicks have been bred since the 1700s.
